“Healthy China 2030” and “National 13th five-year plan for scientific and technological innovation in medical devices” advocate that students majoring in biomedical engineering combined with medical engineering are expected to have strong innovative design ability and practical ability of medical devices. This paper takes the biomedical engineering major of Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Science as an example, and expounds how to cultivate students’ innovation and entrepreneurial ability in discipline competition from four aspects of the significance, specific measures, effects and promotion strategies of the discipline competition. Furthermore, it promotes the integration of discipline competition and professional accomplishment, theory and practice, competition and innovation, provides a new path for the innovation practice teaching reform, and raises the student's innovation ability.
