Abstract: Objective To explore the application effect of visual laryngoscope combined with Human Patient Simulator (HPS) in the teaching of airway management for eight-year clinical anesthesia students. Methods 52 students of the eight-year clinical anesthesiology were randomly divided into the traditional group and the visual group, 26 students in each group. The traditional group used traditional laryngoscope combined with intubation model for operation training; while the visual group adopted visual laryngoscope combined with HPS for operation training. After training, they were given an operation test on HPS that teachers set up difficult airway as the real medical template, then test results were statistically analysed. Results In the visual group, the results of tracheal intubation operation, intubation success rate, airway management score, treatment success rate and average score were all better than those of the traditional group (P<0.05).Furthermore, the evaluation of teaching effect on the visual group is significantly higher than that of the traditional group (P<0.05) in enhancing the awareness of airway management and improving intubation ability. Conclusion Compared with traditional method, visual laryngoscope combined with HPS airway management can improve the learning efficiency and is a recommended method for clinical anesthesia teaching.
