Abstract: The comprehensive theoretical examination of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinical courses is a phased assessment at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine to guide long-term undergraduate students to enhance their post competency. However, practice has revealed deficiencies in evaluating students' clinical thinking, comprehensive abilities, requiring further optimization and improvement. Taking the revision of the syllabus for the TCM Practitioner Qualification Examination as an opportunity, this paper analyzes the feasibility of using the practitioner qualification syllabus to guide the optimization of the comprehensive theoretical examination of TCM clinical courses. By comparing the 2013 and 2020 syllabuses for the TCM Practitioner Qualification Examination, it summarizes that the revised syllabus features more detailed examination subjects and contents, with an emphasis on assessing clinical knowledge and thinking ability, as well as highlighting TCM characteristics. Based on this, the comprehensive theoretical examination of TCM clinical courses will be optimized from three dimensions: examination orientation, implementation paths, and question quality assurance, aiming to enhance the post competency of long-term TCM students and improve the quality of TCM talent cultivation.
