Abstract: General education is an important part of higher education,  and responsible for improving the comprehensive quality of college students. Compared with comprehensive universities,  the elective courses offered in independent medical schools are too specialized and not rich enough. How to optimize the knowledge structure of medical students and improve their scientific literacy and humanistic quality has been an important issue in the education and teaching reform of independent medical schools. Through a systematic analysis of six consecutive semesters of sub-modular general education courses at Capital Medical University,  we intend to put forward rationalized suggestions for independent medical schools to further utilize the advantages of online general education courses and improve and optimize the online general education course system.

Key words: online general education course, sub-modular application, independent medical college, application and exploration education
