Abstract: Objective   To construct the teaching system for “Introduction to Anesthesiology” and evaluate its teaching effects. Methods   Based on the basic teaching system of “Introduction to Anesthesiology”, we introduced experimental teaching and the corresponding theory courses to construct an updated system with the combination of the theory and practice. Through questionnaire survey, we compared the teaching effect differences between the basic teaching system and the updated teaching system. The questionnaire content included cognitive ability to anesthesiology, motivation to study follow-up courses and career planning. Results  The undergraduates who received the updated teaching system have better understanding of the importance, the feature and the career choice of anesthesiology. Meanwhile, the updated teaching system provided the guidance for studying basic and clinical medicine courses and participating internship programs. Furthermore, the updated teaching system could provide advice for career planning and preparing medical license examination and post-graduate entrance examination. Conclusion   The updated teaching system with the combination of theory and practice could enhance the cognitive ability of anesthesiology, motivate the interest of follow-up courses and guide the career planning. Thus, this system provided a new way for the undergraduates to learn, to love and to understand anesthesiology and to be qualified in anesthesiology major.
