Practice of international accreditation of prosthetic and orthotic engineering program—example of Capital Medical University

Abstract: Prosthetic and orthotic engineering is an interdisciplinary program, involving medicine, rehabilitation medicine, engineering and other disciplines. Professional accreditation has become an important approach to ensure the quality of higher education in the world. The professional accreditation carried out by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) has been widely recognized. This paper introduces certification process of the professional prosthetist and orthotist of ISPO from the aspects of certification preparation, graduation examination, expert evaluation and certification review, etc. At the same time, we clarify the promotion role of international accreditation on specialty construction, and provides experience for relevant domestic colleges or training institutions to carry out professional education and participate in international accreditation for prosthetic and orthotic engineering program.
