Application of standardized patient teaching in standardized training of residents

Abstract: Objective To explore whether the standardized dementia patient teaching can improve their attitude and geriatric ability of standardized training residents in geriatric department.Methods A total of 134 geriatric residents in Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University were selected for standardized training, and their geriatric competence was evaluated before and after standardized dementia patient teaching, and residents' attitude to dementia patients were observed before and after the teaching.Results After standardized dementia patient teaching, there was a significant difference in scores of skill improvement in all parts than before (P<0.001). Evaluation of standardized dementia patients to residents showed significant improvements in communication and interpersonal skills of residents.Conclusion Standardized dementia patient teaching to geriatric residents has operational and clinical value. Residents have improved in their reception attitude and clinical skills with dementia patients.
