Abstract: Objectives To explore the effects of narrative medical education on training interns' empathy ability, communication ability and expression ability. Methods A total of 62 interns in Grade 2017 were selected to carry out narrative medicine lectures and parallel medical record writing training; Student version of Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy, self-assessment scale for medical students' doctor-patient communication behavior and Chinese version of communication skills attitude scale were used for evaluation. T-test was adopted to compare the score differences of students before and after training, to evaluate the changes of relevant abilities, and to conduct questionnaire survey and qualitative interview. Results The score of empathy scale was (79.77±5.93) before training and (83.13±11.56) after training; the score of communication behavior scale was (174.69±22.33) before training and (188.27±15.78) after training; the score of communication attitude scale was (83.35±5.52) before training and (87.34±9.46) after training; The scores after training were higher than those before training, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The subjects' satisfaction with narrative medicine training was 93.55%. The interviewees believed that narrative medicine training improved their cognitive and emotional abilities and had a deeper understanding of life, disease and death.
