Abstract: Objective To investigate the current situation of digital literacy and learning needs of English teachers in medical schools in China, and to provide a reference for improving their digital literacy levels. Methods Medical English teachers from six representative independent medical schools were selected as samples, and 196 valid questionnaires were received for the research. Results In the survey, 73.47% of the teachers recognize the importance of digital literacy for medical English teachers, and 55.61% expressed a willingness to actively use digital technology, but less than 20% of the teachers had a deeper understanding of advanced technologies such as smart classrooms and virtual reality. Additionally, medical English teachers generally expressed a high demand for digital literacy training, particularly in multimedia tools, artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, and data-assisted tools. Conclusion Most teachers have a basic understanding of digital literacy, but their application of advanced technologies is relatively weak, and their demand for training is strong. Therefore, it is recommended that medical schools across China strengthen their training of teachers in new technologies, improve digital application skills, actively utilize online platforms to bridge regional gaps, and provide continuous support and feedback to enhance teachers' digital literacy.
