Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of reading list to improve refresher otologists’ ability to read temporal bone CT.Methods 66 trainees from the otology department of the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, from January 2016 to December 2017, were selected as subjects, and divided into experimental group and control group. Thirty students in Team 2016 were in the control group, while 36 students in Team2017 were in the experimental group. Before and after the training of otology, each student was tested for the reading ability of temporal bone CT. Questionnaires were conducted to compare the difference of the two groups’ performance and the evaluation of the questionnaires. Results There was no significant difference in age, gender, or scores of temporal bone CT examination before training between the two groups (P>0.05). After the completion of otology training, the scores of temporal bone CT examination in the experimental group were better than those in the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). This study compared the two groups in terms of learning interest, reading efficiency, systematic reading, accurate self-confidence, surgical risk assessment ability, doctor-patient communication ability and satisfaction degree, and found that the experimental group was better than the control group, with statistically significant (P<0.05)difference. Conclusion Reading list can cultivate standardized and systematic reading habitsin teaching temporal bone CT reading, and can help to enhance learning interest, and effectively improve the ability of refresher physicians to read temporal bone CT.
