Construction and application of a portable self-boot system for online examinations

Abstract: The organization and management of examinations are of great importance for the curriculum development in education. The computer aided examination system has significantly improved the efficiency of examination tasks. The development of a functional online examination system will greatly facilitate the delivery of modern higher education. Currently, the rapid development of internet technology has reshaped the learning process of college students in nearly all natural or social scientific disciplines. Online examination platforms with network and database support have become a required setup for modern education. The development of a tool to provide a generic solution for online examinations will be in demand for course directors. In this paper, we described our efforts to develop and integrate several free opensource software resources for a successfully constructed USB mobile system with scalability. The system was tested to be stable and easy to use, providing multiuser registration and allowing real-time interaction, dynamic random test, online grading, question bank management, user management, score record report and documentation, etc. The implementation and application of our online examination system can support most of the required tests and examinations with ease, flexibility and reliability.
