Abstract: Objective To analyze the results of the questionnaire among students after the case teaching method was applied in ophthalmology class. Methods Three sections of teaching contents including ophthalmology retinopathy, optic nerve disease, and eye disease and systemic were taught by case teaching method, other chapters using the traditional teaching method. After the class, 139 undergraduates who attended the class of ophthalmology were investigated. Results 139 undergraduates were enrolled, the number of valid questionnaires recovered was 131, and response rate was 94.2%. 127 (96.9%) respondents supported case teaching method, their total evaluation score of case teaching method was 8.64 ± 1.08, and the evaluation score of traditional teaching method was 6.34 ± 1.03, with a statistically significant difference in comparison of these two scores. Case teaching method could attract more students' interest in learning, and help students analyze and resolve clinical problems, and master the knowledge. Nevertheless, the students showed less strong participation awareness during case teaching. Conclusion The case teaching method can help to improve students' interest in learning, and cultivate their capacities in analyzing and solving problems, but it needs students' positive participation in case teaching.
