Influence of dormitory interpersonal relationship on depression of first-year college students majoring in nursing from the perspective of positive psychology

Abstract: Objective  To explore the influence of dormitory interpersonal relationship on depression of nursing freshmen, and to provide basis for psychological counseling of depressive tendencies in nursing freshmen. Methods An electronic questionnaire was used to investigate the influence of dormitory interpersonal relationship on depression from January to February 2023. Taking nursing freshmen in a college as the research object, a survey was conducted on 324 students. Data were processed and analyzed by SPSS22.0 to determine the influence of dormitory interpersonal relationship on depression of nursing freshmen. Results  There were significant differences of group cognition (F=3.488, P=0.019), verbal communication (F=4.224, P=0.024), disturbing behavior (F=4.865, P=0.009), sharing behavior (F=5.220, P=0.002), individual characteristics (F=5.021, P=0.003) in the dormitory interpersonal relationship of nursing freshmen among different depressive tendencies. The dormitory interpersonal relationship has a significant impact on depressive tendencies. The depression scores of nursing freshmen show significant differences in the factor of student origin (t=0.361, P=0.035) of demographic characteristics. Conclusion  The dormitory interpersonal relationship has a significant impact on depressive tendencies of nursing freshmen. Relevant departments of the college should pay attention to the identification and guidance of students with depressive tendencies in the management of dormitory, detect depressive mood early, judge the causes of depression, pay attention to dormitory interpersonal relationship of nursing students, and improve their mental health level through improving dormitory interpersonal relationship.
