Abstract: In the context of close intersection between disciplines, innovation of laboratory technology and growth of people's medical needs in China, the discipline academic orientation, objectives and mode of talent training in laboratory medicine have been facing with stupendous changes. In 2012, “Medical Examination” was changed to “Medical Laboratory Technology” in the new version of the Catalogue of Undergraduate Specialties of General Higher Education Institutions, and the duration of study was changed from five years to four years, and the degree awarded was changed from bachelor of medicine to a bachelor of science. Therefore, the undergraduate teaching materials have been rewritten to meet the needs of training new testing talents. By comparing two textbooks of clinical biochemistry testing published by People's Medical Publishing House, for students of different academic programs and degrees, this paper summarizes the characteristics of the new version of teaching materials for medical laboratory technology in terms of writing concept, layout and content focus, etc. Based on the requirements of talent training under the development strategy of “New Medical Science” in the context of “Health China”, we review the shortcomings in current teaching materials based on the professional orientation of medical laboratory technology, explore the direction of medical laboratory technology teaching materials construction through teaching materials comparison and discuss how to better implement the new model of testing talent training through teaching materials reform.
