Extended reading to improve medical students’ ability of English literature reading

Abstract: It is important for medical professionals to read medical papers written in English and catch the key points in the papers quickly, and it warrants the individual medical knowledge update. Nowadays most medical students haven’t obtained the above ability, and the Extended Reading Course is a way to solve the problem. On the basis of medical knowledge acquired in class, the goal of the Extended Reading is to guarantee the further accumulation of medical English and medical knowledge. There are three parts for the Extended Reading, including Extended Reading Textbook, Web Library and WeChat Platform. All those contribute to obtaining the ability of reading medical papers quickly and the ability of active study for medical students. Furthermore, the Extended Reading is helpful to promote understanding on how to train medical students and accelerate the medical education reform and development.
