Abstract: Assessment, an important part in the university teaching, is an essential index for evaluation of the teaching quality and students’ learning outcomes in the universities. This paper analyses the drawbacks of traditional course assessment methods in universities, and argues the course assessment should be reformed in the aspect of content evaluation, mode evaluation and performance evaluation according to the nature and features of the courses. Meanwhile, continuous assessment combined with final assessment should be carried out to comprehensively evaluate the students’ knowledge, capability, quality and attitude.
