A self-controlled before-and-after study on the effectiveness of online journal clubs in improving research ability of medical postgraduates

摘要: 目的 探讨线上文献研读会(online journal club, OJC)在医学研究生科研能力培养中的实践价值与应用成效,为优化研究生科研培养模式提供实证参考。方法 采用自制问卷对46名参与OJC的神经生物学专业研究生开展调查,通过配对样本t检验分析OJC参与前后科研相关能力的差异,采用描述性统计分析调查对象基本特征及OJC总体评价情况。结果 参与OJC后,研究生的文献报告能力、科研课题执行能力、英语阅读能力,以及科研伦理认知、循证医学意识均得到显著提升(均P<0.001);但英语表达与写作能力未呈现统计学意义上的改善(P=0.160、0.660)。总体评价结果显示,91.30%的调查对象对OJC的参与意愿、积极参与态度及持续组织诉求持“完全同意”或“基本同意”态度,86.96%的调查对象认可从OJC中获益并选择“完全同意”或“基本同意”,无调查对象选择“基本不同意”或“完全不同意”。结论 OJC在提升研究生核心科研能力与科研素养方面成效显著,可作为研究生科研培养的有效补充形式,未来可通过优化英文应用相关设计,进一步完善其培养效果。

Abstract:

Objective To explore the practical role and application effectiveness of online journal clubs (OJC) in cultivating postgraduates' scientific research capabilities, and to provide empirical reference for optimizing their scientific research training models. Methods A self-designed questionnaire was conducted among 46 neurobiology postgraduates participating in OJC. Paired samples t-tests were used to analyze differences in research-related capabilities before and after OJC participation, while descriptive statistics were employed to analyze the basic characteristics of respondents and their overall evaluation of OJC. Results After participating in OJC, postgraduates showed significant improvements in literature presentation ability, research project execution ability, English reading ability, awareness of research ethics, and evidence-based medicine awareness (all P < 0.001). However, no statistically significant improvement was observed in their English expression and writing abilities (P = 0.160, 0.660, respectively). Overall evaluation results showed that 91.30% of respondents held "strongly agree" or "basically agree" attitudes towards their willingness to participate in OJC, positive participation attitude, and demand for continued organization of OJC, while 86.96% of respondents acknowledged the benefits from OJC and chose "strongly agree" or "basically agree". No respondents selected "basically disagree" or "strongly disagree".

Conclusion OJC demonstrates remarkable effectiveness in improving postgraduates' core scientific research capabilities and literacy, and can serve as an effective supplementary form for postgraduate scientific research training. In the future, the training effectiveness can be further enhanced by optimizing the design related to English application.
