Methods This research used the method of the comparative education study to compare training orientations, curriculum frames and enrolling patterns of the medical schools that provide the 8-year program in China. And we also conducted keyword frequency analysis to examine the selected key words of training orientation statements of those schools. Results Although the orientations of the 8-year medical education programs are similar in different medical schools, the curricula make a huge difference. Conclusion We would like to suggest two focusing areas for breakthroughs in education reform for the 8-year clinical medical education programs: ① admitting mature trainee from multiple educational backgrounds; ② setting up educational standards for the 8-year clinical medical education programs.
